Barry Williams - What Tennis Means to Me

by Barry Williams

I’ve been playing tennis longer than I’ve been a Brady. When I was eight-years-old, I picked up a tennis racquet for the first time, and the game has been an important part of my life ever since. In fact, I taught Alice (actress Ann B. Davis) how to play in between scenes on the Brady Bunch Set. Now I play several times a week and regularly participate in

USTA tournaments in Southern California. I also look forward to my monthly game with my television sibling Chris Knight (a.k.a. Peter Brady).

One of the greatest gifts tennis has given me is the ability to do a great deal of charity work through the sport. Over the years I have participated in charity tournaments for Lupus and Chuck Norris’ Kickstart Foundation (a character building, life skills program for high risk kids).

Tennis is also a great sport for someone who is on the road a lot like I often am. I pack my racquet and try to find a local player or pro who can hit the court with me. It’s great fun and it keeps me in shape.

It has been an honor to work with the USTA over the last several years to promote the game across the country. I can talk not only from experience, but from the heart, because the game has brought me so much joy throughout my life. I’ve already passed on the love of the game to my four-year-old son Brandon because I know it is a sport he can enjoy for a lifetime.
